We start our trip by leaving behind the city bustle of Bangkok to reach the scenic Siem Reap by road at as early as eight in the morning. Our commuting ends at the Poi Pet Border. After completing the immigration formalities at the border it’s time to move in rich Khmer history of Angkor at visit Angkor National Museum.
Next up is a boat ride on Asia’s larges lake; Tonle Sap Lake, and it numerous human colonies living on its surfaces. Experience the buzz of floating markets, floating villages. Day one ends with a beautiful sun set by the lake.
The next day will take you back in the history and its charming relics. Visit Angkor Thom, meaning “Great City”, was the last and most stable capital city of the Khmer empire, established by King Jayavarman VII during the late twelfth century.
Angkor Thom spreads over an area of 9 km². it is collction of several monuments and temples, standing testament to 12th century south asian stone architeucture. At the centre of Thom there is the Bayon, Jayavarman’s state temple. Visit these monuments in Angkor Thom such as Bayon temple, Royal enclosure and Phymenakas, Baphoun, Elephant Terrace and leper King Terrace.
Post an authentic Cambodia lunch it’s time to visit the Hindu Lord Vishnu at Angkor Wat, a Hindu temple. The Angkor era began in 802 A.D when King Jayavarman II returned from his exile in Java to reclaim his throne. Today nature has reclaimed it dominance on these temples or rather it relics and whatever if left of it. But I must say the twisted ballet of tree trunks and roots with the stone walls and pillars of the temple make for a magnificent site.
Visit Ta Prom, one of the most famous temples of Angkor, and don’t miss the sunset at Pre Rup before you head back to the city allowing her to engulf you in its hush rush.
